The general secretary of the CGT, Hector Daerhighlighted the need to “seek a balance in the values of the foods that make up the table of Argentines and what happens in the world”and reaffirmed that the agreement reached with the IMF “provides greater certainty and future prospects.”
“The retentions balance the price of food in Argentina; we must find a balance between the table of the Argentines and what is happening in the world. We are facing a war that disarranges all the prices of commodities. For this reason, an agreement with the IMF, allows at this time, to have greater certainty and future prospects,” Daer said in statements made to Radio 10.
“We are facing a war that disarranges all commodity prices. Therefore, an agreement with the IMF allows, at this time, to have greater certainty and future prospects”
In this context, he pointed to “the uncertainty and imbalance” that was generated with international prices as a result of the war between Ukraine and Russia, and considered that “it is necessary to order” a balance between the values of the foods that make up the table of Argentines and what is happening in the world”.
“The problem is when those prices are transferred to the domestic market and greatly affect the table of Argentines,” said the union leader.
In this line, he considered that agro-export production should not generate “a differential to the detriment of the internal market” and indicated that it is the role of the State “to harmonize social life by taking measures in this regard.”
“If the $200 bread goes to $400, it is a great impact on the Argentine table, it affects the most vulnerable sectors”Daer reiterated.
