Democracy is the way and an incorruptible commitment
Three years ago, when the first issue of El Independiente was published, we assumed the commitment to be rigorous custodians of values as expensive as freedom, democracy and defense of the Republic. We rely then on two great protagonists of the 20th century. We quote Winston Churchill, who had the beautiful audacity to define democracy as the least evil of political systems. And we borrow one of the maxims of the great Mohandas Ghandi, in that there is no path to peace, that peace is the path, only that we allow ourselves to replace the word peace with democracy. We believed, and we continue to do so, that although discouragement and disenchantment win us over at times, we have made progress since that augural February 3, 1989 in building a life under the protection of the Constitution that protects the existence of the Republic and the institutions that the form.
In El Independiente, the spirit that motivated our appearance on September 2, 2019 remains intact. We knew that the task assumed would be difficult, full of complexities and threats. But this newspaper was not born for the comfortable life and much less to please the power, be it economic, political, religious or of any other nature. On the contrary, we are here to make you uncomfortable, to say what many do not want to be said. Corruption and political transa will always have us on the opposite path, undressing them and pushing them towards the domains of justice whose empire we dream will ever be absolute and indomitable.
We will continue to put the scalpel of news, analysis and research in everything that has to do with the management of public money. We deeply despise the waste, the waste of valuable resources, the diversion, in short, of the contributions of citizens to the pockets of the corrupt who use power to monopolize tenders, indulge themselves with enormous salaries and surround themselves with the comforts that only a A spendthrift and uncontrolled state gives gifts to the opportunists who infect it.
We have come this far because we care about the Republic and because we do not give up the dream of a country administered with prudence, wisdom and married forever to the Constitution that we knew how to give ourselves in 1992.
We will never give up on that purpose. The commitment continues and with the same enthusiasm as three years ago.
