President Iván Duque announced this Wednesday, during the summit of the Pacific Alliance held in Bahía Málaga, that they expect “in the coming weeks” the officialization of Ecuador as a new Associated State of the continental bloc.

“During the last year we have worked with the Ecuadorian authorities to practically finish what will be a process that, hopefully, will take weeks, for the country’s incorporation into the bloc“, said the president.
“We have an alliance that we hope very soon will welcome Ecuador (…) Ecuador should have been in this Alliance, it was a natural beginning and today, with our commitment, we hope to see it very soon as a full member and that Ecuador also benefits from what clearly It is one of the most successful commercial and public policy integration processes in the world”.

Duke also pointed out that The Alliance will support the invitation that Peru received this Tuesday to join as a member of the OECD, while the other countries will push for Colombia’s integration into the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC).
