Justice ruled in favor of channels 4, 10 and 12 who demanded a debt from those in the metropolitan area for retransmitting their content. They were prohibited from continuing to do so until they collect the amount owed and, thus, miss broadcasting the World Cup.
The Communications Service Regulatory Unit called a mediation for this Monday.
The mayor of Canelones, Yamandú Orsi, criticized the measure.
“The users of the Canelones cable channels were affected by the signal being cut off, and one day before the World Cup! Years ago, the dispute with the open channels of the capital was generated 2 months before and gave time to negotiate. Not today. We fuck the canaries. That’s not fair. loosen up!“.

“Media law is being violated. It is a shame”, said the president of the Uruguayan Chamber of Television for Subscribers, Washington Melo, to MVD Noticias. Ursec’s intention this Monday is to bring the parties together and be able to solve the conflict in view of the World Cup.
