News Colombia.
The parishioners of the Church of the Holy Trinity, located in the El Recreo neighborhood, are dismayed after the recent robberies that have hit their temple.
In less than a week, the church has been the victim of two robberies, leaving the community in a state of alarm and concern.
In both robberies, the criminals stole less than 300,000 pesos from the collection boxes and donations.
However, material damage to the railings and roof has been significant.
Alexander González, the parish secretary, reported that the repairs have cost around 1,100,000 pesos: “The first installment cost approximately 700,000 pesos, and the second one has already cost 400,000 pesos,” he said.
José Vicente González Ávila, a businessman and resident of the area, expressed the community’s discontent: “We are tired of robberies at all hours, of people, of houses and now of the church. This should not be like this,” he said.
Priest Rodrigo Giraldo Naranjo has decided to implement a security system to protect the temple, including cameras and alarms.
“The need for security has become evident. After two robberies in the same area, there is great concern,” said Father Rodrigo.
For his part, Colonel Luis Fernando Atuesta Zárate, commander of the Police in Quindío, said that they are reinforcing security in the area with constant patrols: “We are patrolling the sector and maintaining communication with the community to prevent new incidents,” he said.
Residents of the El Recreo neighborhood and parishioners of the Church of the Holy Trinity hope that these measures will restore peace to their area and curb the growing insecurity.
