“We are with you, courage and strength”: the message from Central American women to Machado

Opposition member María Corina Machado thanked the Central American women for their messages and asserted that “women from Latin America and the world are united by the values we share: truth, life, family, solidarity, goodness, freedom.”

A group of women from different Central American countries joined their voices to send a message to the opposition leader, María Corina Machado: “We are with you, courage and strength,” said Elizabeth Odio Benito, former president of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), originally from Costa Rica.

Laura Chinchilla, former president of Costa Rica, was the one who shared the clip on her account X and said that Machado “courageously confronts a shameful dictatorship.” Other deputies from this country also described the Venezuelan politician as “impeccable, a fighter,” without fear of staying in her country despite the adversities.

Abriel Gordienko, a Costa Rican activist, said that María Corina Machado’s message has transcended to the point where many other women around the world have joined in her support.

Former Panamanian Vice President Isabel de Saint Malo told her that her voice is heard in Central America. Meanwhile, activist Lu Argueta from El Salvador said that they are also witnesses to the clamor of Venezuelans “because their vote was stolen” and to the thousands of migrants who leave their country due to the lack of opportunities.

Similarly, this group of women condemned the fact that Nicolás Maduro’s government responds with “violence and repression” to those who oppose his government.

“We support your struggle in these decisive moments,” was another of the messages that the opposition leader received from this group of Central American leaders.

Other women who participated in the video supporting the work that María Corina Machado does in Venezuela are: Kattia Cambronero, a member of the Costa Rican Congress; Andrea Álvarez, a member of the Costa Rican Congress; Gina Kawas, an expert in Public Policies from Honduras; Ana Margarita Vigil, an exiled activist from Nicaragua; among several others.

Opposition member María Corina Machado thanked the people for the messages she received and said that she is “a beauty,” while saying that “women from Latin America and the world are united by the values we share: truth, life, family, solidarity, goodness, freedom.”

She said that these women, with different ideas and backgrounds, “unite their voices and forces to our cause for democracy and freedom in Venezuela. Thank you, thank you.”
