The front of the Orlando Pride, Marta, has been ruled out after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee during Pride’s March 26 game at the North Carolina Courage. Following the injury, Marta has been placed on the season-end disabled list.
“We are absolutely heartbroken for Marta,” Orlando Pride CEO Ian Fleming said. “She is an incredible leader and of course we will miss her on the field this season. But whoever knows Marta knows that she will face this challenge head on, as she does in every training session or every game, and we know that she will do everything possible to continue leading the team off the field. We hope we can help her in this recovery so that she comes back even stronger.”
Marta will undergo surgery at Orlando Health’s Jewett Orthopedic Institute, which will be performed by Dr. Craig Mintzer, Pride’s medical director and chief orthopedic surgeon.
