The former mayor and former senator Gustavo Petro swept and was imposed this Sunday without surprises, with more than 80% of the votes, in the presidential consultation of the Historical Pact coalition, thus becoming a candidate for the Colombian Presidency for the third time.

During his speech, Petro said that he will win in the first round after an emotional closing in which he assured that “The time has come for Colombia, a beautiful time, to live. An intense time. A time in history, in which we finally have, as a generation, a second chance. The time has come for us to be a world power of life. Go ahead, it’s the hour of triumph, it’s the hour of victory. To win in the first presidential round. Long live the Historical Pact!”.
Earlier, at the start of his speech, the candidate representing Human Colombia and the Patriotic Union thanked his followers for their presence and said that “We gave a victory report. What we have obtained is a huge victory throughout Colombia.”

“We are presenting to all of society the possibility of changing Colombia. We do not want a Duke 2 to appear at this time, in these historical times. We want change, transformation to appear. That is why we invite all forces -because they are not all yet in the Historical Pact. The Historical Pact must take a step towards the configuration of a large, broad, democratic front in Colombia, which definitively and solidly wins the national majorities.”he added.
The winner of the consultation for this movement pointed out that the only ones who do not fit into the Pact are “the corrupt, the genocidal”, and invited the rest of society to join his political project.
“We are going to defend a common program that has to do with turning Colombia into a power of life, making the economy revolve around life,” he added.
“Here it is a question of multiplying ourselves, of building ourselves up as multitudes. They criticize us and say that we are going to expropriate, in Colombia we will never expropriate anyone, it is the opposite, of appropriating, of giving Colombian society free conditions for wealth, for production, for the general well-being. Here the policy of social forgiveness is going to be imposed, which is not a legal pardon, an amnesty or a pardon. Political forgiveness is a revolution of society that wants to start new pages, the old pages are full of selfishness, of regional hatred, we want to turn that page and that the new page does not have haters but lovers, that it be a story built by a society without exclusions”, noted in speech.
Finally, he said that we can reach the fundamental agreements that allow us to get out of an abyss of hunger, inequality, poverty, death and build ourselves into a power of life.
