“Fernando spent 15 years as a Director with us and was a member of the risk committee,” said Osuna. “We are going to miss him, without a doubt, he is a good businessman, but now he is also going to be a good competitor.”
Last September, Citi and Banamex announced that they had reached an agreement with Fernando Chico Pardo, which would buy 25% of the bank.
Banamex then said that they highlighted the business experience of the businessman who owns Asur.
Fernando Chico Pardo told a conference that he did not participate in the bank’s first purchase process, in 2022, because he did not “understand” it, but more than half a year ago, he was invited by Manuel Romo and Jane Fraser to see the bank’s books and thus motivate him to make the purchase.
Fernando Chico Pardo said that one of his plans for the bank is to enter businesses in which Banamex does not operate, as well as to make investments in the digitalization of the bank and winked at looking for a brokerage house.
“I started my career in banking, in a brokerage house, and then I worked very closely in the creation of a bank. So, returning at the end of my career to Banamex is a dream,” he acknowledged.
