SANTO DOMINGO.- The lawyer of Argenis Contreras, Plutarco Jáquez assured this Monday that he is investigating the circumstances surrounding the intoxication of his client, who is serving a 20-year sentence in the Najayo prison. The jurist indicated that they are finding out if Contreras was poisoned or if, on the contrary, he was the victim of an attempted poisoning inside the prison.
“We are doing all the investigations to see if Argenis was poisoned or he poisoned himself, because obviously the Public Ministry is going to give its version,” said Plutarco Jáquez.
The jurist pointed out that within the prison, agents from the High Risk Transfer Unit (UTAR) have Argenis in anxiety, and the highest levels of the Public Ministry know that.
“I don’t know if they are paying those agents who are more corrupt than the military and police or if Argenis doesn’t have the money to give to them,” said the lawyer.
Earlier, the Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC) reported that Argenis will be discharged in the next few hours since he is out of danger after he made an attempt on his own life, ingesting a high dose of the pills that were prescribed to him. for the regulation of his blood pressure combined with insecticide, however, his lawyer said that he is unconscious.
“I want you to explain to me if there is a veterinarian in the prison, how it got there, the Attorney General’s Office must explain how it got to the prison,” said Jácquez.
He reported that some time ago Argenis was attacked with a knife.
