Marcelo Ebrard said that there is no reason to attack a treaty that is working well, but if that is the case, if Trump wants to impose tariffs, then Mexico will respond, “today we are better than six years ago.”
He made it clear that Mexico will not come to a negotiation with fear, since it is very aware of what it wants and needs, “there will be tensions, well maybe.”
He recalled that he had to negotiate with Trump for the same issue of tariffs that he wanted to impose due to the immigration flow, it was negotiated and there was no tariff. “Do you know why? Because it is very expensive, (…) you are talking about more than 600,000 million dollars in exports and 300,000 in imports,” he assured.
Ebrard highlighted “the great moment” of Mexico, which is reflected in the announcement of Toyota investment of 1.4 billion dollars the meeting of Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock, with President Claudia Shienbaum and also the commitment to more investment from Mercado Libre, all of that, just this week.
Corn panel resolved in December
Ebrard also announced that it will not be until December 14 for the resolution on the transgenic corn panel to be reached.
This panel already had a preliminary response that was not favorable for Mexico.
The secretary indicated that on October 22 they communicated this preliminary result “it is no secret”, on November 6 Mexico responded to this previous report.
And it will be on November 29, when they inform Mexico if they take into account those additional comments that it presented and in December the ruling will be made.
