One Uruguay Act this year will be in Lavalleja

The high cost of the State, the low growth that the country is registering, the tax burden that falls on the shoulders of the different sectors of national production, union conflict and, in this specific case, the concern over the announcement of the construction of a reservoir in Casupá are part of the main demands of the Movement.

The central event this year will be on Friday, January 23 in the town of Gaetán, in the interior of the department of Lavalleja.

“As has been done every year, this time we will have speakers from almost all sectors, all expressing their point of view on how the country is functioning. This year the special seasoning is the Gaetán theme” reported Gonzalo Elduayen.

Gaetán is a town near Casupá that would be directly affected if the dam is built by OSE to ensure the supply of drinking water to the metropolitan area. “We took the trouble to go to the area and we were surprised that they want to build a reservoir in a place where no water flows” he assured. “There are 4 or 5 streams and they are all dry” he added.

The member of Un Solo Uruguay revealed that about 90 families live in that area, precisely in that perimeter of about 3,000 hectares that are estimated to remain under the reflecting pool. “There are crops of all kinds: soybeans, corn and pastures for livestock. Production is diversified. In addition, we have three schools operating, schools with 100 years of history” held.

“It is genocide to want to build a dam in a populated area” expressed the producer from Soriano’s department who spoke with THE PROFESSIONAL Radio this Wednesday, January 14. “You think about this since we have inexhaustible sources of fresh water in the country that would be available whenever they wanted, no matter how dry it is.” he assured.

“Here we are talking about building a dam in a dry place, there is no water, there are no streams. How are we going to build a dam in a place where we do not collect water?” he asked, addressing the authorities of the National Government. “It is estimated that it would take 4 years to fill it” he counted.

He also denounced environmental damage because some 400 hectares of natural forest would disappear in one fell swoop. “Roads will be interrupted, people will have to make terrible turns to get to their properties” said Gonzalo Elduayén.

“The people of Gaetán have to make themselves felt and the Movement understands that the most important thing is that people who do not have a voice or who do not have the possibility of reaching the microphones can express themselves” he remarked. “USU wants you to listen to the forgotten Uruguayans, to the forgotten country that remains to the north because here we are dazzled by the lights of the big cities, of tourism, while up there we have other tourism that no one takes advantage of” lament.

FROM HOUR 18

Although the first visitors to the town will begin to arrive early in the afternoon on Friday, January 23, it is estimated that the gathering will begin at 6 p.m.

As happened the first time, back in 2018 in Rural de Durazno, a proclamation will be read, but there will also be space for the different sectors of national production to express themselves by making known their main concerns and claims that are oriented to the political sector in general, without distinction of Parties.
