Clean Water and Sanitation is called goal 6 of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) established in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and it is intended to achieve them by 2030.
In conjunction with Objective 7, which seeks to guarantee the sustainability of the environment in order to reduce the percentage of people who lack sustainable access to drinking water.
One of the most important resources that Paraguay has is water, not only for human consumption but also as an energy generator. Protecting the sources of the vital liquid is the strategy for sustainable development and this includes what is done with wastewater.
Our country has the highest water potential in the region, with annual water availability per capita, with a figure of 67,000 m3 per inhabitant. This figure is possible because there is groundwater, surface and atmospheric water, but the distribution of these types of water is not homogeneous throughout the country.
In San Lorenzo, a Wastewater Treatment Plant was built that will have a direct impact on the entire Central Department. It will be possible to process 570 liters of water per second, allowing that after a high-tech process that cleans the water and it returns to the San Lorenzo Stream, which is part of the Ypacaraí Lake basin, thus contributing to the protection of the environment, collaborating with the water resources that later pass to other purification treatment plants for human consumption.
The ideal would be to have a Wastewater Treatment Plant in each department, in this way we will be contributing to the conservation of the vital liquid.
Considering the population growth, it is important that the Wastewater Treatment Plant is already active by the month of September 2022. It is encouraging to know that this date can be reached since the companies that executed the project have already concluded with everything necessary. to activate this modern treatment plant.
