The Minister of Environment, Susana Muhamad, announced the investment of 92 million dollars to stabilize the water supply in the capital and the Savannah. This is financing for the ‘Bogotá-Region landscape water resilience’ project, which will benefit some 10 million inhabitants.
In the framework of the COP29 conference, which is taking place in Azerbaijan, the official pointed out that “The project that is co-financed by the Ministry of the Environment and the RAPE Central region is part of the financial quotas that Colombia has. The second phase that we announced today aims to sustain the conservation of protected areas and also the restoration of 15,000 additional hectares focused on the provision of water,” said the Minister of Environment.

Susana Muhamad added that “it is a joint implementation effort between entities of the national order, the region, the Capital District and the farmers of the area.”
The resources are directed towards actions in the second phase in the Sumapaz-Chingaza-Guerrero corridor.. According to the entity, the project includes work with around 2,100 families and also seeks to reactivate the local economy with 160,000 wages.
“We have been working with the Green Climate Fund to provide solutions based on nature the problems of the basins that supply water to Bogotá (…) These issues that are already beginning to worry in municipalities of the Andean Region, in municipalities of various regions of the country, of the Caribbean Basin, are exacerbated by the climate crisis,” he said. for her part, the vice minister of Territorial Environmental Planning, Tatiana Roa.

The project is long-term, with around 25 years of execution. During this period, feasibility studies will be developed; environmental and social analysis, as well as the financial structure for payment for ecosystem services.
