The government responded to criticism from the opposition, which was uncomfortable with the fact that the high leadership of the government was not present at the funeral services of the former Minister of the Interior and senator for the Broad Front, Eduardo Bonomi, who died in early Sunday morning.
The vice president of the Republic -and acting president due to Luis Lacalle Pou’s tour of the United Arab Emirates-, said: “I was in contact with representatives of the political force, with the family, I arranged the corresponding honors”, in allusion to the brief statement from the Presidency in which the state funeral for Bonomi was ordered.
I did what I had to do, with the urgency that is needed”, he stressed. “The commitment to fire a public actor was fulfilled,” he added.

For his part, the Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, also made up for the criticism from the Popular Participation Movement (MPP), to which Bonomi belonged, for not making an appearance in any part of the parade.
“I do not get it. We were represented by two senators. I made public statements, and I reiterate my condolences to the political force. I don’t know what else they want”, snapped the hierarch who came to his position after the death of the previous minister, Jorge Larrañaga, who in turn had been Bonomi’s successor.
“On many occasions, when we had to fire colleagues, I would have liked there to be many more people present,” added Heber, who minimized criticism by calling them “small discussions” that remain in the background because he has “more important issues” to attend to. .
