The Colombian LPG Association (Gasnova) issued a worrying alert to the government of President Gustavo Petro, due to the threats that the armed group the National Liberation Army (ELN) made to employees and contractors of the operating company Parex Resources, which produces liquefied petroleum gas (cylinders or gas LPG), in the Capachos field, through a contract with Ecopetrol.
“This hydrocarbon field supplies 80% of the demand for LP Gas for the department of Arauca”indicated Alejandro Martínez Villegas, executive president of Gasnova.
As he explained, due to the threats from the ELN, operations were stopped and this has meant that the fuel distributors have to go to supply themselves in the Cusiana and Cupiagua fields, as well as in Termoyopal, in the department of Casanare, with the corresponding extra cost.
“We ask the Government to intervene, so that the threats to the oil operation that generates problems for the needs of households that use LP Gas for cooking cease,” Martinez said.
