The Social Security Institute (IPS) reaffirmed its position that there was no malpractice in the case of the patient Ramón Samudio, whose relatives denounced that the “wrong” leg was amputated.
Given the recent statements by relatives of Mr. Ramón Samudio, the IPS through a statement indicated that the audits carried out by the Superintendence of Health and the Internal Audit of the institution, concluded that “there was no malpractice.”

Likewise, the IPS clarified that the patient, while recovering at home, had difficulty healing in soft tissues due to several factors, among them: diabetes, mainly as an underlying disease; smoking habit; malnutrition due to poor nutrition and other “external” conditioning factors.
In that sense, the IPS blamed the patient and his family environment for the situation.

“Therefore, currently after a medical evaluation, a surgical procedure to cover the exposed bone has been recommended; which was carried out on the date and whose healing will continue to depend on the extreme care and strict compliance with the treatment outside the hospital environment, ”adds the statement.
