US President Donald Trump had given until this Thursday for Ukraine to accept the 28-point peace plan, initially negotiated between Washington and Moscow, and later discussed with kyiv.
However, through social networks, spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that during the last week, the United States has made “significant progress” towards the ceasefire being finalized.
Uncertain deal
The talks in Abu Dhabi continue to be led by US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll, who operates as an interlocutor for both sides.
According to reports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is pursuing a meeting with Trump before signing any pact, but the meeting has not been confirmed.
Ukrainian sources have indicated that this exchange would possibly take place immediately or immediately after Thanksgiving, which is celebrated this Thursday in the United States.
The Trump Administration last week presented Zelensky with a peace plan negotiated with the Kremlin that would force Ukraine to reduce its army, in addition to ceding territory to Russia, including areas that have not been conquered militarily.
Following weekend negotiations in Geneva between the United States and Ukraine, a new 19-point agreement proposal emerged, more favorable to kyiv and its European partners.
On the other hand, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that his country is waiting for the final version of the proposal.
However, the diplomat has admitted that the modifications in the document that have been reported by the media “would mean a totally different situation.”
Lavrov acknowledged that much of the initial document reflected the vision shared between Trump and Putin during their last summit in Alaska.
