The ‘war’ for control of the Sinaloa Cartel
Following the surrender and arrest of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, there have been shootouts, drug blockades and clashes between the sons of the founders of the “Sinaloa Cartel”: “El Chapo Guzmán” and “Mayo” himself.
These episodes of violence have been linked to the conflict between “Los Chapitos”, a group of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán’s sons, and the one led by “Mayito Flaco”, son of “El Mayo”.
Amidst the violence, both sides have left various messages to their opponents, such as leaving hats on bodies, since “El Mayo” Zambada is also known as “The Man with the Hat.”
Meanwhile, on Friday night, human remains were also found next to a pizza box, which was linked to “La Chapiza,” as the group of the sons of “El Chapo” Guzmán is also known.
He On July 25, “El Mayo” Zambada was arrested in the United States, after Joaquín Guzmán López, one of “El Chapo’s” sons, allegedly kidnapped him and took him in a small plane to El Paso, Texas, where “El Chapo” turned himself in and handed over the legendary drug lord, who had never set foot in jail.
“El Mayo” was presented last Friday before a federal court in Brooklyn, New York, where he was accused for 17 charges related to drug traffickingfirearms crimes and money laundering, to which the boss pleaded “not guilty.”
The state governor, Ruben Rochahas rejected on various occasions that despite the violence that occurs, the state is overwhelmed.
“We are suppressing the hotbeds of violence, large seizures are being made, that is very important, the seizures, confiscating weapons, ammunition, making arrests,” said the Morena leader.
From Mexico City, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has downplayed the wave of violence and has asked the cartels to act with a “minimum of responsibility.”
“There have been some problems, there is the Army, there is the Navy, there is the National Guard. We must tell the people of Culiacán, because it is only Culiacán, that we are watching, that they should act with caution, but without alarmism, and that they should be careful,” he said last Friday.
López Obrador asked criminal groups “not to settle their disagreements with violence,” as “El Mayo” Zambada also recalled in a letter.
“They (the criminals) must also act with a minimum of responsibility, it is their family, their fellow countrymen, their municipality, their state, their country, and, even before this, because this has become unbalanced since the arrest or kidnapping of Mr. Zambada, he himself, insipidly, recommends in his letter that there be no violence, and we should all be asking that there be no violence,” he declared.
