The weekend of the Brazilian Paralympic Athletics Championship, in São Paulo, had a big winner. Wanna Brito from Amapá left the competition with two gold medals and, as a bonus, two records from the Americas: on Saturday (7) in the club throw and the day before in the shot put. Brito competes in the F32 class, for athletes with cerebral palsy.
In the club throw, Wanna Brito reached the mark of 28.03 meters, surpassing the previous Americas record, which belonged to her own and which was 27.89 meters. The brand had been registered in April this year.
In the shot put, the athlete achieved 7.96 meters, four centimeters away from the Paralympic and world record, set by Ukrainian Anastasiia Moskalenko during the Paris Paralympic Games. On that occasion, Wanna won silver with a mark of 7.89 meters. At the 2024 Games, she placed fifth in the club throw.
“I really wanted to end the year like this. In Paris, unfortunately, I didn’t get the medal in the club launch, but everything was a great learning experience. Today, thank God, this mark of 28.03 meters came out, the best of my life and I can end the year with two records from the Americas in the Brazilian Championship”, said the native of Amapá in a statement given to the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB).
