The Rio-Niterói Bridge was closed for around 1 hour this Saturday (20) due to improper access by a walker, who entered the road on foot. He even climbed onto one of the information gantries on the road. The man was rescued by the Fire Department. Even after being reopened, traffic on the road remained congested.
The closure ended up causing impacts on traffic on important roads in the capital, which give access to the bridge. Linha Vermelha, Avenida Brasil, Viaduto do Gasônimo, Avenida Francisco Bicalho and Elevado Paulo de Frontin were congested in the early afternoon.
With the congestion, the time to cross the bridge, which normally takes 13 minutes, also increased considerably and drivers took up to 1 hour on the journey to Rio shortly after reopening.
In a post on the social network X, the concessionaire Ecovias Ponte, which manages the road, explained the delay in closing the bridge.
“In incidents involving pedestrians on the road, the operation becomes more complex and our teams work in an integrated manner to preserve life, seeking to reduce impacts on traffic. Comments that dehumanize do not contribute to collective care or mental health.”
