Alternate deputy Walkiria Chandler revealed that she will present her candidacy for free candidacy as main deputy of the 8-3 circuit, this after her main deputy, Gabriel Silva, announced that he would not seek re-election in the Assembly.
“I am quite happy with the example that the two comrades from the independent caucus are giving to the country, they commit themselves and respect their campaign promises, here are two deputies speaking with deeds and not with words,” she said, referring to the commitment they made deputies Silva and Juan Diego Vásquez not to be re-elected.
In addition, he pointed out that the independent deputies did not come to the Assembly to improvise but are prepared for the job, he also said that there is a replacement, that thanks to the non-reelection they will be able to aspire to these positions, so “publicly and announced to the country that through the coalition we go”, both Vásquez and Silva will continue working for the Panamanians.
“And that the citizens know that for my part, in the next few dates I will be presenting my application for the main deputy of the circuit, this is something that we are going to do with capacity, with commitment and collectively, because there are several of us who are for that relay,” he said, noting that Juan Diego and Gabriel are passing the torch.
He stated that in the country there are important issues that must be debated in the Legislative Chamber such as public policies on children, the elderly, the precariousness of workers and the economic boost that the country needs, topics that he believes will be possible to debate with more independent in the seats.
As for the new rules of the 2024 electoral tournament, Chandler said that the rules are quite uneven and that they have changed from 2019 to date.
“It is not the same document that was consulted by the citizens when it left the Assembly here, the modifications were quite perverse; there is no equality of conditions, now we have a digital system that is in its infancy and is not the most efficient”, he pointed out.
