Volta Redonda defeated Fluminense by 2 to 1, on the night of this Sunday (12) at Estádio Raulino de Oliveira, for the first leg of the semifinals of the Carioca Championship. The teams will decide who advances to the competition decision starting at 4 pm (Brasília time) next Saturday (18) at Maracanã.

Playing at home, Esquadrão de Aço immediately opened a two-goal lead, with Pedrinho in the 25th minute of the first half and Lelê in the sixth in the final stage. Faced with the adverse score, the team from Laranjeiras started to risk more and, after trying so hard, managed to score in the 33rd minute with Nino, in a bid in which the will of the defender prevailed.
The Carioca semifinals will continue next Monday (13). From 9:10 pm, Flamengo and Vasco will face off at Maracanã.
