MIAMI, United States. – The president of the United States, Joe Biden, and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelenski, met this Wednesday at the White House with the intention of expressing the strength of their alliance and sending a message to Russia, according to reported international news agencies.
Zelensky arrived at the White House shortly after 2:00 p.m. (US East Coast time) where he was expected by Biden and his wife, Jill Biden.
According to EFE, “the two leaders exchanged a few words, posed in front of the cameras, and went together with Jill Biden into the White House while the US president put his hand on Zelenski’s shoulder.”
Zelensky’s trip to the United States is the Ukrainian president’s first departure from his country since the start of the Russian invasion of his countryon February 24.
The Ukrainian leader arrived in this medium at the Andrews military base, in the state of Maryland (USA). In his Telegram account, he published images of his arrival in the northern country and assured that the purpose of his visit was to seek ways with the US to “strengthen” Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.
This Thursday, Zelensky will give a speech before both chambers of Congress, which plans to approve another 45 billion dollars in economic and military aid to Ukraine in the next few hours.
For its part, the White House announced Wednesday a new $1.85 billion military aid package for Ukraine that, for the first time, includes the Patriot air defense system.
