Volleyball: Regla Torres will lead the team in the premiere of the Mexican Professional League

The time as coach of the former star player Regla Torres will have a new chapter starting next January, when she assumes command of the Guerreras de Puebla during the first edition of the Liga de Volleyball Professional (LVP) Mexico.

The one who was considered by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) as the best player of the 20th century will assume command of the project that aims to incorporate important international talent, according to report of The Sun of Puebla.

According to what was reported, each of the teams will be able to count on the services of six foreign players, and in the case of the Puebla team, the managers hope to incorporate figures from Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil and Cuba.

The president of the franchise, Guillermo Ramírez, explained that the roster is still under construction, since between 25 and 30% are missing to complete the payroll.

For this, he explained, they carried out tryouts that would allow local prospects to be identified that can join the group, in which Torres, who was present at the official presentation of the team, must participate.

The media points out that the formation would be headed by Paulette Muñoz, libero of the Mexican national team, and Andrea Félix, opposite Pan American medalist and recent runner-up in the Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games.

After her retirement from the sport, after the 2002 world championship, Regla assumed coaching duties for the Cuban national teams of different categories until 2023, when she joined the Russian club Uraloshka, which was then managed by the legendary Nikolay Parpol.

The nascent LVP will have six teams, because in addition to the Guerreras, the teams from Tapatias Club (Guadalajara), Freseras de Irapuato, Gigantes de Aguascalientes, Leonas de León, Coronelas de Durango and Guerreras de Puebla will fight for the title.

The contest will be held in a round-robin format., with round trip series. The top four will then advance to the finals.

The Guerreras will begin the calendar away from home on January 17 and 18 facing the Tapatias, and their debut at the Miguel Hidalgo Gymnasium will take place on the 24th, with the Lionesses as rivals.

The Puebla team is scheduled to close the regular stage in Durango with two matches against the Coronelas on March 21 and 22, where they will arrive with the hope of continuing to fight for the crown.
