The Volkswagen factory, in São Bernardo do Campo, in the interior of São Paulo, closed an agreement with the employees, which provides for the reduction of working hours with a decrease in wages to try to overcome the crisis caused by the lack of electronic components and parts, which continues to harm production at automakers. Even with the high demand, the vehicles are not finished, which leads to a decrease in work.
According to information from the ABC Metalworkers Union, the measure is guaranteed by an agreement valid for five years, signed by the union, and the decision was communicated to the workers, yesterday, in internal assemblies. The program, which has a reduction percentage of 24% in working hours and 12% in wages, with five days less work, will be implemented shortly after the end of collective vacations that run from June 27 to July 7.
less impact
According to the union’s administrative director and Volkswagen representative, Wellington Messias Damasceno, the option to reduce working hours has less impact on the production chain and for outsourced workers.
“Volks wanted to stop a shift, we negotiated to, instead, reduce the journey and keep the shifts running, which reduces the impact on the production chain, on suppliers and, above all, on outsourced workers who do not have the same agreement as Volkswagen workers”, he explained.
According to the union, the measure will be evaluated month by month and may undergo changes until the situation is normalized, which has no scheduled date to occur.
Through a note, Volkswagen confirmed the adoption of new measures to make the workforce more flexible at the São Bernardo do Campo unit, provided for in a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the ABC Metalworkers Union, during the month of July, due to the missing components.
