Volkswagen Virtus: expected return

Although the preference of markets around the world for SUVs is constantly growing, there are important exceptions in which an affordable price and a sporty design make a difference. In our country, speaking of new cars, one out of every three sold corresponds to the three-volume segment. Traditionally, this type of bodywork has been among the most sought after for its practicality as a family vehicle (trunk), and for a design that can be customized towards a sporty touch.

Thus volkswagen virtus modernized its subcompact sedan, placing it as the entry model to the German manufacturer’s family. It adopts the latest design trend that can be seen in all its splendor in models such as the T-Cross, with which it shares a platform.

Among its dimensions, the wheelbase of 2,651 millimeters stands out for a total length of 4.61 millimeters, a height of 1,487 mm, and 1,752 millimeters wide. On its physiognomy stand out elements such as the new grille, the front fascia with a better distribution of functional elements such as the fog lights or the air intake, while new wheels were adopted on the sides and the middle and low lines were retouched. The rear part opens configuration thanks to the skulls, the trunk lid and the defense. The aesthetic differences lie in its three versions (Trendline, Comfortline and Highline), the highest being the one with 17” wheels with the Tritz design in polished aluminum, panoramic roof, chrome handles, among others.

compact family

The space is permissive for four adults thinking mainly of the width. The MQB A0 platform, which is compact by nature, while offering good legroom in both rows, sacrifices width so 2 adults will fit better on the rear bench.

In terms of equipment, the Highline version stands out in terms of technology and connectivity. To a combination of tones and rigid plastics is added a 10” color touch screen (for the entry version it is 7”), with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Autos, as well as USB-A and USB-C ports for both. rows of seats.

The digital instrument cluster is found on the Comfortline and Highline levels. It allows to visualize the information in color in addition to having a certain degree of personalization.

Exclusive to the Highline version is the wireless charger. The Climatronic system is controlled via a touch-sensitive panel that eliminates the use of buttons and knobs. The trunk has a volume of 521 liters but it can grow thanks to the fact that the rear seatback has a 60/40 split, for the two highest levels.

mechanical option

The entry version uses the naturally aspirated four-cylinder with a displacement of 1.6 liters and 110 horsepower that is widely known among the Volkswagen family. The option that offers the best performance is the three-cylinder with 1 liter of displacement and turbo aspiration that delivers 114 horsepower.

For the first engine, the 5-speed manual and 6-speed Tiptronic gearboxes are offered; for the second engine only the Tiptronic is available.
