According to the EFE news agency, the year-on-year index in Germany fell in March to 7.4%denoting a decrease compared to the 8.7% registered in February, according to the still provisional estimates released today by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

This is the first time, since last August, that the consumer price index (CPI) falls below the 8-point mark on a year-on-year basis, although the level remains very high, especially in food, with an interannual increase of 22.3%.

However, in Spain the indicator behaved differently. Year-on-year inflation in the Iberian country stood at 3.3% during this month of Marchbeing 2.7 points less than that of February (6%) and the lowest since August 2021, according to provisional data from the National Statistics Institute (INE).

The moderation in the increase in prices is due to the downward trend in energy, specifically electricity and fuel, which shot up a year ago due to the start of the war in Ukraine and now they descend, confirms the agency.
