Being a scoring champion in a league season can be considered something very romantic if you don’t know the real impact on the career of the player who achieves the merit. This is the case of Vladimir Moragrega, forward for Atlante FC in the Expansion League, who with 11 goals in the Apertura 2024 (he scored every 92 minutes) raises his hand to be seen by a Liga MX club or why not ? by a European scout. At 26 years old, Vladimir looks at his best football moment, as it is the best number of goals in his career, which began in the Dorados basic forces (under 17).
He has been through clubs such as San Luis and Tijuana (U19), Atlético La Paz, Alebrijes, Correcaminos, Atlético Ottawa (Canadian Premier League) and is in his second period with Atlante (2021-22). With the Colts he has had his best version and his market value is estimated at 800 million euros (transfermarkt). Vladimir spoke with El Economista at the end of the A2024 season, in which he still had to review his continuity in the team.
_How does being a scoring champion reflect on benefits for your career?
“It’s a big leap, it’s raising your hand, it’s something valuable so that first division teams can look for you and I decided from the beginning of the tournament ‘I have the team and everything to achieve this so that they come back to see me.’ Thank God and the work that was given. I have had approaches from Liga MX teams but nothing concrete, I hope it can be done.”
Atlante reached the semifinals of the tournament and if they had continued, Vladimir would have had the chance to accumulate more scores. He is two goals behind the Portuguese Joao Paulo Dias ‘Paulinho’, who was proclaimed scoring champion of the Apertura 2024 by finishing the regular phase with 13 goals.
_How small is the field of work as a forward in the Liga MX for Mexicans?
“Foreign forwards have always been seen, it is what first division teams invest the most in. In Mexico we are willing to fight for a front position, there is talent, instead of a foreigner who is paid millions of pesos, a Mexican can be the same function.”
