The Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, stated this Tuesday morning that Coronavirus cases have been growing in the last three weeks in the country, although “it is not predominant and it is not translating into hospitalizations and deaths”but urged the population to attend to apply the vaccine boosters to continue expanding immunity.
“The last three weeks we started to see an increase, it is still a slight increase not a situation that predominates over other respiratory viruses. This year we had a very early flu peak, now we are also experiencing an increase in type B flu cases and all the other viruses circulated throughout the year”, indicated Vizzotti.
In statements by Radio 10, the minister maintained that this increase in infections “is not predominant and is not translating into hospitalizations and deaths”, and linked it to the fact that “82 percent of the population has at least two doses” of the vaccine against Covid, but he maintained that “the concern now is a bit about the lack of risk perception and the thought that the pandemic is over.”
“The challenge is to convey that we are going to continue like this with the largest number of people vaccinated. Regardless of the fact that we are not at risk of overflowing the health system, what we seek is to have the least possible impact, save as many lives as possible, and that is through vaccines,” the minister emphasized.
The head of the health portfolio maintained that the increase in cases “it is to be expectedwe have been saying it all the time, that we are going to have some seasonal peaks even out of season as it is now”.
The Covid “is going to add to the seasonal viruses, so the difference between the increase in the number of cases compared to the previous two years is in no way going to generate the tension in the health system that it generated or the concern of not being able to respond,” said the official.
However, Vizzotti remarked that “We have a tool that is vaccination and that is why we ask the population to come to get reinforcementsif 120 days have passed (from the last dose), especially over 50 years of age and people with risk conditions, teachers, health and security personnel.
In addition, he remarked that “of course when circulation increases, the chinstrap has a more important role and if we have symptoms we should not have contact with other people, but above all vaccines, it is the most important thing.”
