The mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, appointed in the last few hours the lawyer and philosopher Viviana Barberena as the new district supervisor.
Barberena has a Master’s degree in Public Administration and is a lawyer from the Universidad Externado de Colombia, with experience in land management issues. It will aim to exercise preventive control to public institutions the end of counter possible cases of corruption.
“Today is a very important day because we installed the new district supervisor. The Veeduría is a very important institution for Bogotá, It is relatively recent, but it helps us to carry out preventive control in cases of corruption,” said the mayor.

Lopez made it clear that Unlike other institutions such as the Personería or the Comptroller, that have investigative and sanctioning powers, the Veeduría does not have those faculties.
“What you have is ability to anticipate problems, to help us identify them. The Mayor’s Office of Bogotá has some extraordinary public servants who do a great job, but we are not exempt from errors, from things that we have to improve or from precautions that we have to take against any risk of corruption,” added Mayor Claudia López.

When referring to these cases of corruption, the mayor emphasized, for example, the complaints they have made about the failures and abuse of the operator of the Doña Juana landfill.

López also referred to the alert about the Salitre WWTP that registers some irregularities and that from now on it will be one of the main issues that the new district overseer will have in mind.
Viviana Barberena’s resume highlights that was manager of the campaign and coordinator of the Legislative Work Unit of former senator Antanas Mockus and director of the Bogotá Botanical Garden.

Barberena thanked the mayor for her appointment to the position and pointed out that “there is an important pedagogical task that has to do with the improvement and the responsibility that we officials have of all levels.”
He will begin his duties in office this Wednesday, with special emphasis on the operator of the Doña Juana landfill, the PTAR Salitre and road works in Bogotá.
