VivaAerobus and Volaris mobilized 72% of travelers in the first semester

In the country, the five main airlines with the highest arrival of passengers on domestic flights in the first half of the year were Volaris, VivaAerobus, Aeroméxico, Aeroméxico Connect and Aeromar, which added a market share of 98.1 percent.

According to the most recent data on air activity reported on the Datatur platform, of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), in this period 26 million 135 thousand 566 passengers were mobilized on domestic flights by the eight main Mexican airlines. Only Volaris and VivaAerobus had the highest activity, transporting 18,825,351 passengers together, that is, 72.1 percent of the total.

It was followed by Aeroméxico, Aeroméxico Connect and Aeromar, which together from January to June transferred 2 million 553 thousand 609 users, 26.3 percent of the total market share.

During the first six months, 24 million 389 thousand 479 passengers were transported on international flights, of these, 6 million 109 thousand 829 were mobilized on flights abroad by the eight main Mexican airlines.

Last January, the Inegi reported the departure of one million 170 thousand international tourists from Mexico abroad, which meant 534 thousand 75 tourists more than what was reported in January 2021, equivalent to an increase of 84 percent.

From January to June 2022, the airports that received the most foreign visitors were Cancún, Quintana Roo (4,823,418); Mexico City (AICM, one million 973 thousand 761); Los Cabos (one million 124 thousand 660); Puerto Vallarta, Jal. (905 thousand 710); Guadalajara, Jalisco (553 thousand 56); Cozumel, Quintana Roo (127 thousand 138) Monterrey, Nuevo León (113 thousand 689); Silao, Guanajuato (94 thousand 698); Morelia, Michoacán (64 thousand 343) and Mazatlán, Sinaloa (62 thousand 54).

Likewise, in the first semester, 4 million 955 thousand 975 people visited the main archaeological zones of Mexico (3 million 365 thousand 390 nationals and one million 690 thousand 585 foreigners). Another million 994 thousand 101 did the same, but in museums. In this semester, the most popular places were Chichén Itzá, Teotihuacan, Tulum, Monte Albán and Palenque, as well as the museums of Anthropology, History, the Templo Mayor, the Three Cultures, and the Regional of Guanajuato Alhóndiga de Granaditas .
