Palmeiras won an important victory on their way to the Brazilian Championship title. Playing at Allianz Parque, Verdão counted on striker Vitor Roque’s eye for goal to defeat Santos 2-0, on Thursday night (6), and open a three-point lead against the second-placed team, Flamengo, who drew with São Paulo last Wednesday (5).

Facing an opponent fighting to get out of the relegation zone (Peixe occupies 17th place with 33 points), Palmeiras didn’t have an easy time. In the first stage, the team led by Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira created good opportunities, but was stopped by good saves from goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão.
After the break, the Verdão commander made changes (the additions of Felipe Anderson, Allan and Raphael Veiga) that were decisive for the course of the match. With more rested players, Palmeiras took control of the actions once and for all, and opened the scoring in the 21st minute. Argentine Flaco López launched a quick counterattack and passed it to Vitor Roque, who dribbled past Gabriel Brazão before hitting the ball into the empty net.
Verdão continued to improve and managed to expand in the 34th minute with a great goal. Attacking midfielder Raphael Veiga passed a deep low pass to Vitor Roque, who, with great freedom, made just one touch, as a cover, to beat the Santos goalkeeper and give final numbers to the scorer.
Fighting for the Libertadores
Another team to triumph at home was Fluminense. Playing at the Maracanã stadium, Tricolor das Laranjeiras beat Mirassol 1-0 thanks to a goal from striker Serna.

With the victory, the team led by Argentine coach Luis Zubeldía remains in 7th place, but now with 50 points, just two points behind 5th placed Bahia, the first team within the G5, which guarantees a direct place in the next edition of the Copa Libertadores de América.
Mirassol, despite the setback, remains in 4th place in the standings, with 56 points achieved.
Draw in the Classic-King
In the third match this Thursday, Fortaleza and Ceará were 1-1 at the Castelão stadium. In the 36th minute of the first half, Bareiro scored with a header and gave Leão do Pici the lead. However, in the 44th minute of the final stage, Pedro Raul guaranteed the final draw.
