Visa launches its first cryptocurrency cards in Latin America

Visa wants to join the cryptocurrency craze and seeks to be a partner to offer these companies connectivity, scale, security and value propositions.

“The cryptocurrency ecosystem continues to gain momentum in the region with increased investment, more consumer adoption, and more crypto-enabled use cases, and we will continue to build on our strong strategy to build the future of crypto and payments for our customers. clients, partners and consumers,” said Romina Seltzer, senior vice president of Products and Innovation for Visa Latin America and the Caribbean.

With these alliances, users can make purchases anywhere Visa cards are accepted, purchase crypto assets and receive rebates in bitcoin.

Visa is supporting card issuance projects in other countries such as Mexico, Colombia and Peru. In Mexico, the unicorn Bitso, a cryptocurrency exchange platform, announced that it will soon have a card, although no further details are known about it.

Beyond card-based solutions, Visa offers infrastructure capabilities, consulting services and tools to better navigate the world of digital currencies and the emerging NFT economy.
