An air traffic controller at Viru Viru International Airport worked for at least 17 hours on Wednesday. This is Fabiola Pereira, who said that they pressured her and threatened to go to jail and lose her job. His colleagues denounced that DGAC officials took their duties.

“There was a moment when I collapsed, not because of work, it was because I was very tired, I couldn’t take it anymore, I started to fail in my instructions, to tell me to get off an aircraft that had to get on, so at that moment I already said that I was wrong ”, He narrated through tears in an interview with Fides TV.

Pereira was one of the workers who had to abide by the contingency plan that the Government implemented by eliminating the Administrator of Airports and Auxiliary Services to Air Navigation (Aasana).

He said that he collapsed due to working hours and the fatigue he felt, and said that at one point he began to “fail in the instructions” that he had to give to the pilots.

“I really got sick because we have a job of such responsibility, there are lives in our hands, as children, and that you fail, besides all this, you have lives in your hands, they are not a burden, there are families, if you start to to fail you can do something heinous and that will fall on your conscience. At that moment I got stronger, I said ‘enough’, as an air traffic authority I made the decision to delay the traffic for three hours ”, he stated in the program“ Before noon ”.

Air traffic controllers denounce that DGAC employees took their duties

Through the statement, workers from the Santa Cruz Air Traffic Controllers Association (ACTA) denounced that their work sources were taken by officials of the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC), retirees and people who “never worked” in the terminals areas of Santa Cruz.

“We clarify that there is no controller of the former Aasana Santa Cruz providing services at the Viru Viru and El Trompillo airports (…). We denounce that services are being provided at these airports by DGAC personnel, retirees and personnel who have never worked in these airports ”, the note indicates.

Workers affiliated with ACTA affirmed in the statement that they did not receive job offers to be rehired in the newly created Naabol, or any other formal proposal for work.

“The air traffic collaborators of Santa Cruz, after being fired in a totally unconstitutional way, we have not received any type of job offer nor have we been made aware of any formal proposal regarding the current situation that we are going through,” details the pronouncement.
