Champion of the Special Group in 2020, Viradouro ends today (10) the season of technical tests at Marquês de Sapucaí. The samba school of Niterói will parade at 10 pm, and will also test the sound and new scenic lighting of the Sambódromo.
After being canceled in 2021, the samba school parade was again affected by the covid-19 pandemic in 2022. On January 21, amid the wave of cases caused by the Ômicron variant, the municipalities of Rio and São Paulo decided to postpone the event, which was rescheduled for the period from 20 to 23 April.
The Special Group, considered the top division of samba in Rio, will parade on the nights of April 22 and 23, starting at 10 pm. On Friday (22), they enter the Sambadrome Imperatriz Leopoldinense, Mangueira, Salgueiro, São Clemente, Viradouro and Beija-Flor. On Saturday (23), it will be the turn of Paraíso do Tuiuti, Portela, Mocidade, Unidos da Tijuca, Grande Rio and Vila Isabel. The champions return to the avenue on the 30th.

So that the public can arrive and leave the sambadrome, the schedules of the Supervia and Metrô Rio trains were extended until midnight. At the same time, special trains from Central do Brasil are planned, bound for the Japeri, Santa Cruz and Gramacho branches.
Before the Viradouro parade, the avenue will receive religious who will perform the Sambadrome washing ceremony, scheduled for 19:40. Carnival groups must also participate, guided by members of the Baianas wing, old guards and children from all associations of the Special and Gold Series groups. Couples of masters of ceremonies and flag bearers will also be present, in addition to the Cacique de Ramos block and the afoxé Filhos de Gandhi.
