With more than 400 free activities spread in various areas of the city of São Paulo, marking the arrival of the children’s month, the 1st edition of Viradinha Cultural begins this weekend. Spaces such as theaters, museums and libraries will be used to host events intended for children, this Saturday (4) and Sunday (5).
The program features children’s theater, dance, music, storytelling, artistic interventions and great shows. Sesc São Paulo units, in various parts of the state capital, will also receive various activities.
“Viradinha reinforces the role of culture as a space for meeting, training and celebration of childhood. We want to offer families diverse and quality experiences in all corners of the city,” says Totó Parente, municipal secretary of culture and creative economy, responsible for organizing the event.
Two activities stand out today. The show Shakespeare’s glovesfrom the Vagalum-Tum-Tum Company, proposes an adaptation of the classic works of the writer to childhood. Already The mequetrefefrom the Parlapatões group, explores humor and poetry with four clowns, called days, who live crazy situations in just one day.
On Sunday (5), the XPto group, presents the show The stones of Xavier. The group operates in researching various artistic languages, such as animation and physicist theater, live music and performance. Another show that draws attention is PIPO AND FIFIfrom the Cia Trucks doll theater company. The play addresses affective feelings and teaches the little ones how to protect their bodies.

A survey conducted by Datafolha and the Itaú Foundation Observatory, published in February this year, shows that 35% of Brazilians are prevented from attending cultural activities in person for financial difficulties.
Access to culture for children is not only linked to the gratuity of an event. Other factors need to be considered so that there is sector democratization. The assistant of the Cultural Action Management of Sesc São Paulo, Natália Martins, points out that Viradinha is a great opportunity for inclusion.
“We know that for peripheral schools, travel is a little harder and, at the end, we have a great chance, because all the schedule is free. The shows that take place in theater, for example, usually have a $ 40 charge. They will be free and the distribution of tickets starts today. [Apesar] Of this money spent on transportation, we have the possibility that people enter the space and get a magic experience, ”said Natália.
