The Dominican authorities initially concluded that David Ortiz was injured in an alleged confusion, claiming that the shooter confused him with another person.
However, in March 2022, an independent investigation headed by the ex -commissioner of the Boston Police, Ed Davisand the exagent of the CIA, RIC PRADOestablished that the attack was ordered by the alleged drug trafficker César Emilio Peralta (César El Abusador)who allegedly would have placed a reward against the player after a personal conflict.
In December 2022, the First Collegiate Court of Santo Domingo issued sentences ranging from five to 30 years in prison against 10 of the 13 accused of participating in the attack.
That same night of the attack, César the abuser was seen on the outskirts of the Abel González Clinic, where Ortiz received first aid, a fact that, according to the then attorney Jean Alain Rodríguezturned on the alarms and motivated the beginning of the operation that dismantled the criminal network two months later, with the support of US agencies.
The operation against the César network the abuser mobilized more than 500 agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD)troops from the Ministry of Defense and more than 50 career prosecutors and 150 support servers.
