Venezuela recorded 1,397 murders between January and September, which shows a sustained drop in the number of homicides, whose average is 116 per month, unlike 2021 when an average of 923 cases accumulated every 30 days, according to a report from the Venezuelan Violence Observatory (OVV) published this Friday, November 25.
The accumulated number of violent deaths this year, if the trend of the first three quarters continues, it will be 83% less than in 2021, when there were 11,081 murders, although these OVV data are dismissed by the authorities.
In the third quarter of the year, according to the non-governmental organization447 new victims were registered, of which 343 died at the hands of criminals and another 104 people lost their lives due to police intervention.
Between July and September, the murders occurred mainly in the oil state of Zulia, followed by Aragua and Miranda, regions close to Caracas, and in the Amazon Bolívar, it was indicated in a report by efe.
According to the report, 7% of homicides had women as victims, which represents a total of 24 cases, below the 64 femicides reported in the third quarter by the NGO Utopix, which leads the monitoring of these events in the country.
Likewise, the OVV accounts for 104 deaths due to police intervention, attributed mainly to the Bolivarian National Police (PNB), to regional surveillance bodies and to joint operations between police and military.
Regarding non-lethal violence, 773 victims were counted -of which half suffered attacks-, which includes 238 children and adolescents affected by these scourges.
The investigation shows that in most cases of harm to women and minors, the perpetrators are people known or direct relatives of the victims.
