Violence at football match in Indonesia leaves 127 dead

At least 127 people were killed after angry fans stormed the field after a game of football in Malang, IndonesiaSaturday night, police reported.

“In the incident127 people were killed, including two policemen. Another 34 people died inside the stadium and the rest in hospital,” East Java province police chief Nico Afinta said in a statement on Sunday.

The events occurred in the middle of a club football match. Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya, in Kanjuruhan.

“They died from the chaos, the pushing, the stomping and the lack of air. The situation got out of control when security forces fired tear gas at the stands,” the Malang district health chief told local TV.
