He former deputy and leader of the National Progressive Force (FNP)I sawnicio Castillo Semáncriticized the Dominican leftist movements for mobilizing in favor of dictator Nicolás Maduroat the moment imprisoned in New York on drug trafficking charges.
In his opinion, The United States had the right to defend itself in the face of a regime that, as he stated, established pacts with drug trafficking to send drugs to US territory and held links to extremist organizations in the Middle Eastincluding the iranian governmentwhich—he assured—constituted a serious threat to national security of that country.
Castillo Semán maintained that “Dictator Nicolás Maduro, President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were offered multiple opportunities for peaceful dialoguewith the aim of him abandoning power in Venezuela, including generous proposals that would have guaranteed impunity and economic resources”.

He indicated that then-President Trump had no intention of resorting to military forcebut that “Maduro left the United States no alternative; that is the historical truth of that fact”.
Likewise, he stated that the UN and the OAS abandoned their role for more than a decade against the Venezuelan regime. “If these multilateral organizations had acted responsibly, Venezuela would not be in the situation it is in today.. And she knows that well dominican leftwho has come out to mobilize in favor of today prisoner Nicolás Maduro”, he expressed.
The political leader added that “Maduro ignored the international community by refusing to respect a adverse election resulteven against left-wing leaders as Lula da Silva and Gabriel Boricfrom Chile, who They did not recognize him as presidentjust like the European UnionHe also recalled that, in the past, Maduro “misled the Biden administration”, which there was sanctions lifted and released his alleged front man Alex Saabin exchange for the promise of free and transparent electionsa commitment that—as he said—he did not fulfill.
“Maduro forged his own destiny as a dictator and it could not surprise him that the first power in the worldunder the leadership of president trumpwould not allow him eternalize in powercontinue sending drugs to their territory, harboring terrorist groups and mocking the international community daily through official media”, he stated.
Finally, Castillo Semán made a called to the Dominican Government to stay on the right path in favor of restoration of democracy in Venezuelapointing out that, as happened in the Dominican Republic after the death of Trujillothat country must go through a transition process and national reconciliationprior to the celebration of free and transparent elections, arbitrated by the international communityas only way to overcome the current crisis.
