Vilma Núñez: The Ortega Regime will stage "a farce trial" to "legalize" the expropriation of the OAS headquarters

Vilma Núñez, president of the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights, argued that in order to declare the building where the Organization of American States (OAS) used to function, a summary trial must be held. Protected by the law, the lawyer stressed that “they cannot only take a visceral order from Rosario Murillo and take it for granted.”

In an interview for NOW the podcast of Article 66the human rights defender maintained that Daniel Ortega’s regime is going to mount a farce trial “to give the appearance of legality” to the confiscation of the offices of the continental body.

In addition, he indicated that the dictatorship is stripping “practically of the property from the owner,” since the OAS rented part of the building where its headquarters were located in Managua.

Ortega Regime declares the real estate of the OAS of public utility

For Vilma Núñez, the confiscation of the OAS building is “an attack on property rights because they cannot force them. How are they going to declare public utility? They have to demonstrate according to the trial, there must be a cadastral appraisal, it is a trial, a summary trial, but it is a trial.

He insisted that Rosario Murillo cannot announce that real estate be declared of public utility, “that has to be done by a judge in a trial.”

He added that the people of Nicaragua are aware that the Ortega-Murillo regime “is stealing and snatching everywhere.”

On April 26, Rosario Murillo announced the confiscation under the “law” of his regime of the building where the Organization of American States (OAS) worked in Managua, which had been taken over by Ortega officials since April 24.

The dictatorship, through the Ministry of Culture in Nicaragua, will install a museum of “infamy” on the confiscated property where the OAS headquarters were located.
