The president of the Montevideo Department of the Broad Front and former vice-presidential candidate, Graciela Villar, indicated that if there is a NO victory in the referendum and the Broad Front reaches government again, some articles of the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC) can be “undone”.
The former candidate exemplified, in an interview with the program Who is Who of Diamante FM, that the new adoption code “has to go back”. “The chapter on adoptions is reduced, creating a space that already in the history of this country generated the sale of newborn children”assured Villar, in reference to the article put into consideration that enables the Judiciary to give the power of a child to a family with which ties generated are demonstrated, without the need for the endorsement of the Institute for Children and Adolescents of Uruguay (INAU).
Asked if repealing articles that can be maintained by the popular will in the referendum would not be acknowledging that the people can make mistakes, Villar indicated that this is real: “We all make mistakes, we are human beings. (…) I make mistakes, you make mistakes, we are part of the people”and ratified that those articles that “are violating international agreements”, as it assures those referring to adoption, “They will be submitted for consideration, surely another referendum.”
The Frente Amplio clarified that there are articles in which it is difficult to go back, such as the modification of the Social Security Bank (BPS) and its providers, the AFAP regime, and the association of state companies with private companies. “No government is going to be able to undo the gift package given to Katoen Natie right now”he emphasized.
8M, stop “transverse”
villar declared against the general strike of the PIT-CNT being carried out on March 8 (8M)international women’s day, because “It is a transversal date for those of us who think differently”.
The trade union center voted to carry out a 24-hour general strike of men and women that day, and also a mobilization for the Yes to the repeal of the LUC, although will review both points at a meeting of the Representative Board this Friday.
“That day is a day of women’s own claims, and it is good that it is respected”she expressed, and maintained that women have “a platform” in which they criticize femicides, rape as an element of domination, and patriarchy.
The president of the Departmental Frente Amplio added that social movements are “independent of any structure”and stated that will attend the 8M march.
In any case, he made it clear that “no one is going to hold a sign” against the LUC in the marchsince the mobilization that the PIT-CNT plans for that day on the referendum is planned for the morning, and the 8M march will be at night.
Criticism of Raffo “was not happy”
Graciela Villar also made reference to the comments she made about the president of the Department of the National Party, Laura Raffo, in which she said that she “does not represent anyone”, in the midst of the discussion about the Sanitation Plan financed by the Bank. The Frente Amplio affirmed that she, together with the mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, and Raffo, they were “the facilitators” of the dialogue table between all the parties with representation in Montevideo to discuss the Sanitation Plan.
For Villar, as women, the two presidents of the departmental they have “the ability to have rispidities, and in practice transform them into productive work.”
