Villahermosa went from ‘Eden’ to be perceived as the most insecure city

Villahermosa went from 'Eden' to be perceived as the most insecure city

“The urban areas of interest with the highest percentage of 18 -year -old people who considered that living in their city was insecure were: Villahermosa, with 95.3; Uruapan, with 92.5; Fresnillo, with 90.9; Culiacán Rosales, with 90.6; Tuxtla Gutiérrez, with 90.6, and Tapachula, with 90.1, ”the INEGI survey revealed.

In a matter of months, Villahermosa went from being considered insecure to very insecure. In June 2024, 75% of its population did not perceive it as insecure and in September 78.7%.

However, between October, November, December and January, there was a 20% increase in the perception of insecurity.

Governor Javier May minimized the perception of insecurity, because he said that in his journey through the State, he has perceived mood among his governed.

“I was on the border, Paraíso and Jalpa de Méndez; People are very good, it’s happy. There is courage, then, blessings, ”he said.

What detonated that perception?

Villahermosa is no stranger to the violence of the State, which is due to three factors: the expansion of the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel, the theft of hydrocarbons and the control of the border with Guatemala.

The CJNG ventured in that state through “La Barredora”, an organization that was even linked to former Secretary of Security appointed by Adam Augusto López.

“La Barredora” is a criminal group that has among its activities the theft of fuel, drug trafficking and people trafficking.

However, there was a break between the CJNG and “La Barredora”, which detonated the growth of violence in that entity.

In the case of the capital, the CJNG and the Barredora dispute the territory and illegal activities, which has intensified the episodes of violence.

The capital closed 2024 with several disturbances, including a confrontation between armed subjects and elements of the State Police.

2024 was also the most violent year for Tabasco, registering 821 victims, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), which implies a 224% increase compared to the previous year.
