Villahermosa, the most insecure city to March

Last March 61.9% of Mexicans considered that it is insecure to live in their city, this figure is 0.9 points higher than what registered for the same month of 2024, it was observed in the National Urban Public Security Survey published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) in a quarterly manner.

If the data is disaggregated by gender, as of March 2025, 67.5 % of women and 55.0 % of men considered that living in their city was insecure.

“The urban areas of interest with the highest percentage of people aged 18 and more who considered that living in their city was insecure were: Villahermosa, with 90.6; Culiacán Rosales, with 89.7; Fresnillo, with 89.5; Uruapan, with 88.7; Irapuato, with 88.4 and Chimalhuacán, with 86.1 percent.

“In contrast, the urban areas with lower percentages of perception of insecurity were: San Pedro Garza García, with 10.4; Benito Juárez, with 20.4; Negras Piedras, with 20.5; Puerto Vallarta, with 23.0; Saltillo, with 24.5 and Los Cabos, 1 with 24.7%,” the institute reported in a statement.

According to the survey data, between March 2024 and that of this 2025, there was an increase in the perception of insecurity, statistically significant for INEGI in 20 cities; In 14 there was a decline and in 57 there were no changes.

Expectations

According to the survey, 69.1% of the population indicated feeling insecure in ATMs on public roads, which placed them as the place with the greatest perception in this regard. They were followed by public transport (62.8%); the road (56.1%) and the bank (53.2%).

On security expectations for the following months, 31.6% of respondents said the situation will remain equally evil, a decrease of 2.3 points compared to March 2024.

While 22.9% considered that the situation will get worse during the following year. “The above represents a statistically significant increase of 1.4 percentage points in relation to March 2024, when 21.5 %was reported; and 1.3 percentage points in relation to December 2024, when 21.6 %was reported,” the INEGI concluded.
