It’s time to settle down. Encouraged by this motto, the participants of the already renowned Meeting of Traditional Cultures of Chapada dos Veadeiros will meet again, as of today (15), in the quiet Vila de São Jorge, in Alto Paraíso de Goiás, at the entrance to the Veadeiros Plateau.
After two years without the in-person event, due to health restrictions imposed by covid-19, the meeting reaches its 22nd edition promoting traditional popular cultural manifestations and the exchange of experience among participants.
In addition to debates; film shows; artistic exhibitions and dance, music and handicraft workshops, there are several shows scheduled to take place until the end of the meeting, on the night of the 30th. Among the musical attractions announced by the organization are Anelis Assumpção; Amaro Freitas; Enchanted Fire Cord; Curumim; Gloria Bomfim; Juçara Marçal; Maria Gadu, among others.
In addition to well-known artists, the event brings together representatives of traditional communities from Chapada dos Veadeiros and other regions of the country. The public will have the opportunity to watch presentations by groups such as Caiana dos Criolos, whose members, coming from a quilombola community in Paraíba, have already released two CDs with coconuts and cirandas.
As part of the event, the 14th edition of Aldeia Multiétnica will bring together, from today to the 22nd, Indians from the Fulni-ô (PE), Kayapó Mebêngôkré (PA), Xavante (MT), Guarani Mbyá (SP/SC), Kariri Xocó (AL/DF) and Krahô (TO). According to the organizers, the objective is to provide “a great multi-ethnic meeting for sharing knowledge between indigenous peoples and also an opportunity for non-indigenous people to get to know the cultures of these peoples up close”.
Each day, an ethnic group will hold a typical traditional festival. The celebrations start at dawn and go on until the next morning, being interspersed with cultural presentations, conversation circles and lectures.
