Vietnam inaugurates detergent factory and photovoltaic park in Mariel

A detergent factory and a solar energy park, both with capital from companies of Vietnamwere inaugurated this Friday at the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM)where the Asian nation promotes several foreign investment projects.

according to a report of the Cuban News Agency (ACN), the opening ceremony was attended by Esteban Lazo Hernández, recently re-elected as president of the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP), and his Vietnamese counterpart Vuong Dinh Hue, who is making a working visit to Cuba.

The recently inaugurated factory has the capacity to produce 70,000 tons a year of powder detergent, and around 20,000 in liquid format that will be destined for the national market and for export, reported Lázaro Menéndez, technical manager of the Suchel TVB SA joint venture.

Ana Teresita González Fraga, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (Mincex), highlighted that Vietnam is the Asian country with the largest presence in the ZEDM and that it currently has five businesses whose committed investment capital exceeds 160 million dollars.

The official stressed that the investments of Vietnamese companies in sectors of the light and agri-food industries, and renewable energies, contribute to the purpose that Vietnam, as Cuba’s strategic partner, participate effectively in its economic and social development.

The Thai Binh group, a commercial partner of the Caribbean nation for more than 20 years, was the first company in the nation to invest in the island, González Fraga confirmed.

Currently, Vietnam has three businesses located in the ZED Mariel for the production of disposable diapers and other hygienic-sanitary articles, powder and liquid detergents, as well as a photovoltaic solar park with a power of 20 megawatts (MW), which already delivers energy to the National Electric System.

Vicente de La O Levy, head of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) of Cuba, specified that it has an installed capacity of around 23 MW, has state-of-the-art technology that allows monitoring of the position of the Sun, a better use of solar radiation and, therefore, a greater production of electricity.

The minister assured that the operation of this installation would allow a saving of approximately 10,000 tons of fossil fuel per year.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Vietnamese authorities symbolically delivered a donation consisting of 24 tons of washing powder for the Artemisa province health system and equipment for photovoltaic solar generation with storage for a power of five kilowatt hours (KWh). , bound for the Orlando Santana polyclinic-hospital, located in Mariel.

The concessionaire is the first and only one established in the ZEDM that advances in the development of the infrastructures of an area that should be established as the gateway to Cuba and the region for new Vietnamese investments and other member countries of the Association of Nations of the Southeast Asia (ASEAN), refers to the ACN
