Will there be another Vizcarra in politics? Everything indicates yes.
Mario Vizcarra, older brother of former president Martín Vizcarra, confirmed to Peru21 that “does not rule out” to apply for Congress in the general elections of 2026, either to the Chamber of Deputies or the Senate, by the Peru party first, founded by the ex -president.
In February, a report from this newspaper indicated that its eventual application would be part of the “plan B” of the group to dispute the presidency.
However, Mario Vizcarra rejected that version and assured that the candidate will be his brother, something that in practice is unlikely.
Martín Vizcarra’s brother aims to apply for Congress
“The fact that Martín cannot apply is an opinion that I reject because, although it is true, his freedom has now been private, we trust that justice will be imposed and Martín will be released. There is sufficient deadline for Martin to apply to leading our great Peru Party first,” he said.
Martín Vizcarra meets a five -month preventive detention order for the Lomas de Ilo and Moquegua hospital cases, in which the Prosecutor’s Office accuses him of receiving bribes for S/ 2.3 million.
Despite being disabled for ten years to exercise public positions and having lost its militancy in Peru first by decision of the National Jury of Elections (JNE) last April, Mario maintains that there are legal routes for his return.
Peru21 interviewed – in his Facebook Live (minute 5:14) – Mario Vizcarra, older brother of Martín Vizcarra.
According to the Major of the Vizcarra, it is an issue that at this time would remain in the hands of the Inter -American Court and an amparo.
It does not rule out to launch into Congress
On his own application, he was not blunt:
“Doesn’t you rule out to apply for Congress?” We ask. ”
“In no way,” he replied.
“Can you be to the Chamber of Deputies or Senators?”
“Democracy is going to be imposed and we will go with the best paintings we have,” he said, making it clear that the decision will be the party.
Asked whether another family member of the former president could tempt a seat, he said: “Well, it is not known … it is not known.”
Plan B “of Peru First
Last February, Peru21 revealed that, given the disqualifications that prevented Martín Vizcarra from postulating – now aggravated by his preventive detention – Peru first shuffled as an alternative strategy to launch Mario Vizcarra as presidential candidate.
The tentative motto: “M. Vizcarra returns”, formula that sought to capitalize on the last name without violating legal restrictions.
Trajectory and controversies
Mario Vizcarra Cornejo, in addition to his political closeness with his brother, has been linked to Yahaira López García, who obtained public contracts after his relationship with him and then had a daughter with Expremier Alberto Otárola. These links have aroused suspicions of alleged influence peddling.
The former president’s brother is also investigated for alleged crimes of painful pain and aggravated collusion in the case of the criminal organization Los Saqueadores de Ilabaya.
Tacna’s Anti -Corruption Prosecutor’s Office argues that the Vizcarra brothers, through the company CYM Vizcarra, would have agreed with municipal officials to rent machinery in public works, generating damage to the State.
Likewise, an investigation of the Panorama program revealed that Allegados de Mario Vizcarra were favored with Mivivienda bonds, managing to register companies for more than S/ 9 million between 2009 and 2018.
Although those involved deny having received benefits, the pattern of public contracts and family ties reinforces the suspicions of influences.
With Martín Vizcarra after the bars, his brother appears as the relay with the same last name.
