Video. Márquez Amado explains about the possibility of Ricardo Martinelli running for the 2024 elections

Angel Valdes | February 2, 2023

The former magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice, Guillermo Márquez Amado, explained on Radio Panama about whether Ricardo Martinelli can run for the 2024 elections taking into account what the Constitution of the Republic of Panama says, he also gave his opinion on the subsidy electoral and reservations of posts to elective positions made by the Democratic Revolutionary Party.

“I believe that the norm is not so clearly written, when it was drafted the intention was that no one who had been president could be president in either of the two following periods but in the third he could be president, however, reading it carefully , he cannot be re-elected in the same position within the two following presidential terms, it does not say that he cannot hold the position in the third term, my personal opinion is that there should be an interpretation by the Supreme Court of Justice that is the custody and responsible for the interpretation of the political constitution, no one else has that power,” said Márquez.
