A fire that consumed at least 30 homes and damaged another 40 in the municipality of Santa Bárbara de Iscuandé, (Nariño), was allegedly caused by the use of candles during a power outage.
The departmental director of Risk Management of Nariño, Gabriel Ocaña, stated that, approximately 100 families that group close to 300 people were affected.
“It was a conflagration that occurred – according to the first reports – due to a power outage, The people of the neighborhood lit their candles and that generated the conflagration, which was controlled by the fire department with the support of the community. Preliminarily, we have 30 homes that were destroyed completely and 40 homes that were affected in smaller quantities, did not collapse, but were affected,” he said.

Likewise, the official noted that “We have 100 families affected, approximately 300 people, at the moment we are waiting for the minutes to activate humanitarian aid for the victims.”
